Dr. Leisa Covington earned her medical degree from Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine after obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Biology with honors from the University of North Florida. She completed her residency training, serving as chief resident, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. She also trained for a year in Family Medicine at the same hospital. During her residency training, she was instrumental in the improvement and growth of the training program, which greatly impacted patient care in the community. Before joining CenterWell, Dr. Covington worked for Heal providing in-home care to patients in the Metro Atlanta area and worked as hospitalist at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, GA. Prior to becoming a physician, she proudly served as a medic in the U.S. Army, receiving accolades such as the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal. Dr. Covington appreciates working with older adults and believes listening to her patients is paramount in enhancing their health and well-being. She also strives for interprofessional collaboration to prevent errors, improve the patient experience and deliver better patient outcomes. She chose medicine out of a passion for helping others and serving her community. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, loves to travel, and cherishing moments with her family.
