The athenahealth Patient Portal gives CenterWell Senior Primary Care® patients secure, 24/7 access to lab results, prescription refills and direct messages with their care team, all from a phone or computer.
Keeping track of appointments, prescriptions and test results can feel like a full-time job, especially when it means phone calls, hold music and waiting for a callback. The athenahealth Patient Portal was built to remove that friction. Once you're registered, your health information and your care team are only a few taps away.
The athenahealth Patient Portal is a secure online account connected to your
Because it's tied directly to your medical record, everything you see in the portal reflects the same information your care team is working from. That means fewer repeated phone calls, less time spent tracking down paperwork and a clearer picture of your own health.
Most patients find themselves returning to the same handful of tasks. Here's what you can expect to do most often.
What you can do | What it means for you |
View your test results | Access to test results as soon as they're available. |
Message your provider | Send a secure message to your care team with a question, anytime, even outside office hours. |
Request prescription refills | Select a specific medicine and request a renewal without a phone call to the pharmacy. |
Check referral status | See who a referral was sent to, what it's for and print the order if you need it. |
You can also review and pay your bill, opt in to paperless statements and update your contact and emergency contact information, all from the same account.
One of the most valuable features in the portal is the ability to message your care team directly. This isn't a general customer service line. It's a secure line to the people who actually manage your care.
When you send a message, you'll choose your provider or care team, your office location, and a subject such as “Medical Question.” You can add details in the message box and attach a photo or document if it helps explain what's going on. Once submitted, your message goes straight to your provider's care team, and nobody outside that team can see it.
Here's what to expect:
- Response time. Most messages are answered within 2 business days. Because of this, the portal isn't the right place for anything urgent. If you need help right away, call your care team or seek emergency care.
- Notification preferences. In your profile's notification settings, you can opt in to text or email alerts for new messages, test results, appointment reminders and billing updates. Opting into health notifications won't sign you up for marketing messages. It's strictly information about your own care.
- Ongoing conversations. You'll get an email letting you know when your provider has responded, but you'll need to log back into the portal to read the full reply, since messages containing health information aren't sent by email for your privacy.
Staying in touch with your primary care team this way means questions don't have to wait for your next appointment, and small concerns can often be addressed before they become bigger ones.
Once you've completed these 4 steps, you're registered and can log in any time to see lab results, check referral status, message your physician or request prescription refills. You can also make the portal easier to access by adding it to the home screen of your
After you've registered, bookmark the patient portal to your phone's home screen so you can get back in quickly. When you log in, you'll land on a simplified view showing your appointments, messages, billing, health summary and profile.
To make changes to your contact information, look for the blue “Full Site” link at the bottom of your screen. This opens the complete desktop-style view with your full menu. From there, select your name in the top right corner, then “My Profile,” to review and update your patient information, phone number, email address and emergency contact.
It's worth taking a few minutes to check that this information is current, particularly your emergency contact and phone number, since your care team relies on it to reach you when it matters.

To use it: open your camera app, hold your phone so the code appears framed on your screen and tap the link that pops up. If it isn't scanning, make sure you have good lighting and you aren't holding the phone too close to the code.
Is my information private in the portal?
Yes. All messages and health information in the portal are confidential and go directly to your provider's care team.
What if I need help logging in?
Call the patient portal help desk at 833-714-6395, Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. Eastern time. If you're in the clinic, your care team can also walk you through it in person.
How quickly will my provider respond to a message?
Most messages are answered within 2 business days. For anything urgent, call your care team directly rather than sending a message.
Do I need a referral to see my test results?
No. Test results are posted to your account as soon as they're available, no referral needed.
Can I use the portal for telehealth visits?
Yes. Depending on your care plan, you can connect to virtual visits with your provider through the portal, which can be a convenient option when getting to an in-person appointment is difficult.
Your primary care team wants to make it easier to stay involved in your own care, not harder. The patient portal is one part of that. Your physician’s office can see the same test results, referrals and messages you can, so conversations about your health start from the same information, whether you're speaking with your primary care provider, pharmacy or home health team.
If you have healthcare questions for yourself or a loved one, reach out to your care team through the portal, or call to speak with someone directly.
Need help with your account? Call our patient portal help desk at 833-714-6395. We're here for you.
