Dr. Richmond J. Ramirez has been a primary care physician for the past 17 years and speaks English, Filipino, and Spanish. He is board certified, with a specialty in obesity medicine and clinical lipidology. He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines, completed his residency at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. For nine years, Dr. Ramirez was a family and community physician at Thundermist Health Center in New England and was a member of the adjunct clinical faculty at the Kent Family Practice Residency Program in Rhode Island. As a family physician, he is trained to practice “cradle to grave” medicine with all types of patient populations. Teaching medical students proved to be a rewarding experience also, and he is proudest of his Faculty of the Year award, adding, “I feel like I raised a generation of confident family physicians.” Medicine has been his calling since childhood, and as a community physician, Dr. Ramirez loves the challenge of evaluating the needs of specific populations and tailoring his practice based on those needs. He appreciates the clinical care model at CenterWell, since the senior population is at higher risk for chronic disease. Dr. Ramirez strives to minimize the health disparities that exist in today’s healthcare system and is guided by the philosophy: “Healthcare is for all.” He also believes that every patient is unique, and that treating each one as extended family is important. A man of many interests, Dr. Ramirez is an avid photographer, watercolor artist, and world traveler. He also enjoys underwater photography and got engaged last year (underwater!) to his partner of four years, Jeff.
