Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, Dr. Rocío Zúñiga completed her education in Arequipa, Peru at the University of San Agustín, and her residency in Puerto Rico at the Mayaguez Medical Center, where she was recognized as “most outstanding physician during residency 2020.” She is certified in Family Medicine from the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) and is a member of both the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the American Medical Association (AMA). Dr. Zúñiga has spent 18 years working in healthcare and loves that CenterWell provides personalized primary care for seniors. She believes that the senior-centered healthcare model is effective in identifying patient needs, providing resources, modifying lifestyles, and improving overall health and well-being. What Dr. Zúñiga enjoys about being a physician for seniors is listening to their stories and gaining their trust. According to her, trust is the foundation for a strong, successful doctor-patient bond. She appreciates it when they let her share her knowledge – and loves seeing her patients’ smiles after a positive outcome. Her golden rule for care is treating people as she would want to be treated, adding, “You have to respect them, make time for their concerns, and be consistent with treatment and recommendations.” In her time off, Dr. Zúñiga enjoys outdoor activities like biking and hiking, spending time with her husband and boys, and traveling.
