Dr. Mary Gonzales Mercado, M.D., a fellowship-trained cardiologist, board-certified in cardiovascular disease. She performed a cardiovascular disease fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio from 1996-1999. She completed her internal medicine residency there from 1992 to 1995, and Chief Medical residency as a clinical instructor in medicine at UT Medical School San Antonio from 1995-1996. Dr. Gonzales Mercado earned her medical degree with honors from Baylor College of Medicine in 1992, following her B.S. magna cum laude from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1987. Before joining us in 2024, Dr. Gonzales Mercado was a staff cardiologist with Clear Lake Specialties in Webster, TX, and earlier at Southeast Houston Cardiology. She also maintained a private practice and worked in locum tenens roles across the U.S., including the Veterans Administration Hospital and Pacific Medical Centers. Her experience includes a broad spectrum of cardiovascular conditions, with a focus on geriatric cardiovascular care. Outside of her professional life, she is a marathon runner and Ironman triathlete.
