Karissa Lena Maria Charles, MD

Karissa Lena Maria Charles, MD, specializes in family medicine. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Trinity School of Medicine. Dr. Charles completed her Family Medicine residency at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident. She provided comprehensive care for patients of all ages, including older adults with multiple chronic conditions, polypharmacy, and age-related health needs. Her experience included outpatient care, inpatient medicine, intensive care, emergency medicine, and women's health. Dr. Charles also mentored resident physicians, coordinated educational activities, and contributed to quality improvement and clinical research projects. She believes that taking the time to listen to patients is key to improving their quality of life and health. Driven by a passion for helping others and serving her community, she is especially passionate about diabetes, heart health, nutrition, and obesity prevention. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, spending time outdoors, and going to the movies.
