Joseph Alexander James, MD

Dr. Joseph A. James is a board-certified internist and geriatrician with experience in primary care and geriatric medicine. He earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed both his internal medicine residency and geriatric medicine fellowship at the University of Connecticut. Dr. James currently practices at Retreat Internal Medicine and Primary Health Group in Richmond, Virginia, where he has served since 2001. His earlier roles include leading the Division of Geriatric Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. He has also held academic appointments as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Virginia and has been actively involved in numerous clinical trials as a principal and sub-investigator. Dr. James is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and has been recognized as a Top Doctor in Geriatric Medicine. Outside of his clinical work, he is enjoys doing volunteer work, listening to music, and spending time with family.
