A board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, Mariam Castaneda is a 10-year veteran of the healthcare field and recently joined our center in Kissimmee. She is an alum of Central Florida University and completed her Nurse Practitioner internship/residency at CenterWell. Originally from Cuba, Mariam speaks English and Spanish fluently.
Describing herself as a compassionate person, Mariam chose a medical career because she has always enjoyed helping people, especially during their most vulnerable times. During her internship at CenterWell, Mariam was able to spend enough time with patients, without feeling rushed. She believes every patient should be heard and properly informed in order to be successful in the management of their own care. Her recipe for patient satisfaction is to develop a rapport, educating patients at their particular level of understanding, listening to their concerns, and offering reassurances when needed. To Mariam, the right provider-patient relationship is built on trust, respect, and mutual understanding.
During her tenure as a nurse in three Orlando hospitals, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies, and Dr. P. Philips Hospital, Mariam gained experience within a broad range of clinical care. In addition to her Nurse Practitioner internship at CenterWell, she also worked with seniors at Dr. Philip’s – a full-service medical/surgical facility. According to Mariam, the time spent with senior patients there and at CenterWell was very rewarding, as she was able to provide medical assistance along with emotional support.
When Mariam is not caring for patients, she enjoys spending time with family and friends at favorite places like Disneyworld, the beach, and North Carolina. Honesty, trust, and perseverance are the words she lives by.
