Kelly Twells, APRN, recently joined CenterWell in Henderson, NV and has been working in healthcare for more than 30 years. She is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and an undergraduate degree from Penn State.
Ms. Twells had two good reasons to go into healthcare: to care for others and job security. The best part about her role, she tells us, is making a difference in someone’s life with symptom management or emotional support. Her work history has been primarily with the senior population, in Palliative and Hospice care where she has spent the last four years at Southwest Medical Associates, treating acute and chronic conditions, managing symptoms and monitoring for treatment complications with in-home visits. While at CareMore, she cared for homebound patients, in group homes and assisted living facilities and during her three years with Nevada Kidney Disease & Hypertension Centers (NKDHC) she had the opportunity to work with patients of all ages suffering from end-stage kidney disease on hemodialysis in the clinic setting.
To Kelly, the right relationship with patients is all about trust, and her formula for patient satisfaction is to listen to her patients and answer all their questions and concerns about treatment. Her philosophy of care is a holistic approach, recognizing the importance of both physical and mental well-being, customizing care to respect a patient’s beliefs, striving to educate patients on health maintenance and disease prevention, and promoting quality living throughout their lifespan.
On a personal note, Ms. Twells has two daughters she is very proud of; one is in medical school and the youngest, is an undergrad at UNLV. In her spare time, she enjoys an active lifestyle – exercising, skiing, hiking, mountain biking – in addition to spending time with friends and family.
