Dr. Carothers has been working in the healthcare field for the last 25 years, and this past year he joined our center in Port Arthur as a board-certified osteopathic physician specializing in Family Medicine. A former Navy man, he attended Texas Southern University and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and St. Elizabeth Hospital in Port Arthur. Being a provider in the United States Navy together with his practice at South Texas Medical Clinic in Wharton afforded Carothers ample exposure to people with diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences. Before CenterWell, Carothers says he worked with senior patients in clinic and nursing home settings, and adds that what he enjoys most about working at CenterWell is being allotted enough time to care for them. According to Carothers, his favorite part about being a physician is interacting with patients and becoming “part of the family.” Dr. Carothers ensures patient satisfaction by making it a point to address all of their concerns at each visit. He defines the right doctor-patient relationship as being one of compassion and mutual respect and strives to be willing to listen, truly hear, and understand patient concerns. He also believes that a treatment plan should be a joint decision between doctor and patient. His philosophy of care? “Always place yourself in the patient's position and treat them as you would like to be treated,” he says. Dr. Carothers has three children, and in his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, and wood working.
